A Tru Diva Knows

Divas'

I am back! I know its been a long time. I have had a lot going on in my life and things have gotten a little out of control. I have spent some time over the last couple of months doing some serious soul searching, reorganizing my priorities and deciding what I want to do with the rest of my life. This is an ongoing process!

This is my life on a weekly basis:

1. Full time 9 to 5 Job.
2. I go to school 3 days per week
3. I have a paralegal business
4. I have a part-time personal services business
5. I am a Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister etc.
6. I am planning to start a new business (A Tru Diva's Closet -Online Retail Handbag, Shoes and Accessories Boutique) and all of the planning that goes with that.)
a. Research
b. Business Plan
c. Website
d. Marketing
e. Networking
f. Social Networking
g. Miscellaneous
7. Coaching
8. Me Time

I am sure you can relate. I am trying to find more time in the week to do all of these things and still have time for me.

I am still feeling overwhelmed and my coaching sessions are helping me to create the life I want to live. I have also been writing in my journals; I have two -1)My everyday thoughts and feelings and 2) I have a journal entitled "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but my the number of moments that take our breath away"; I try to write at least 1 thing a day that takes my breath away.

I am a work in progress but I have many coaches (friends, both those in the virtual world and those close at home), who are helping me find me and my true purpose. I am learning to slow down, reflect and make sure that the things I am allowing in my life are truly those things that will help me fulfill my purpose.

A Tru Diva is thankful for all of those people in her life who inspire her on a daily basis. A Tru Diva knows the value of stopping to relax, reflect and renew.

Have you stopped lately to relax, reflect and renew?

A Tru Diva knows how to celebrate her special day

Divas,

Today I celebrate my 50th Birthday. I am truly grateful that God has brought me through another year, safe and sound. There have been bumps and bruises along the way, as I am sure there will be many more to come. I have learned that amidst all of the cards, flowers, balloons and gifts, the lasting memories of this birthday come from the time I spent with my friends, family and one very special man.

I continue to learn many things about myself, among them the joy of living my life according to my values and priorities. My girlfriend asked me today, when I woke up this morning and looked in the mirror, did I have any regrets of the things I had done within the last 72 hours (I am sure that she was referring to my belly piercing). I did not hesitate for a moment on the answer, It was a resounding "NO". A Tru Diva tries to live her life without regret.

So publicly, I wanted to thank all of those people who made this Diva's 50th Birthday the best that I have ever, ever had.

A Tru Diva knows how to celebrate each day and especially the day that her "Light" was born into the world.

The "Must Haves" of A Tru Diva's Closet

Divas,

Now that you have gone through your closet and kept those clothes that make your Soul Stir when you look in the mirror, it's time to move on to our next project.

In order to look Fabulously Divaerish (I know, I know, there is no such word as Divaerish, I made that up:), there are a few basic staples that are "must haves" in every Diva's Closet. These are the clothes that can create many different outfits with the right accessories, etc. So let's begin. We will look at 1 piece in each of our next 11 posts.

Classic Shirts - I love men’s' shirts. I love the way they fit, I love the way they look and how sexy I feel when I wear them. So when I am looking for shirts, I tend to gravitate towards the men's section of stores. I usually chose shirts with buttons on the sleeve but I am starting to venture out and try shirts with French cuffs. I've been looking for some great cuff links to create a signature style all my own.

You should find shirts that feel comfortable and look good on you. Make sure you know your body type, how to accentuate your best features and hide your flaws. If you need help, remember to check out www.myshape.com.

Please remember that you are a truly beautiful and unique individual. There is no one else like you in this world. Make your mark! Define your Style! Don't let others (be it designers, society or family and friends) dictate who you ARE or place unrealistic expectations on who you should be. Only you should have that privilege.

A Tru Diva Accentuates the Positive

Ever try to figure out exactly what clothes flatter your figure? The key to dressing for your body shape is to enhance your best features and minimize the areas of which you aren’t so fond of. One size does not fit all. You may wear different sizes depending on the designer/manufacturer of the garment.

So how do you figure out what looks best on you? Myshape.com helps you to figure out how to accentuate the positive and minimize the negative, so no matter what your shape or size, you can always look great in clothes that reflect the Real Diva in you.

A Tru Diva always has something to wear!

!

I live in an apartment. I have one closet in my bedroom and one closet in my hallway. I probably had about two hundred outfits and 100 pair of shoes, boots and sandals between those closets. Yet, I would wake up in the morning and say to myself, I have absolutely nothing to wear today. Then my self talk would kick in and I would say to me, “What is your problem? You have a million and one things in the closet and you have nothing to WEAR?

I always thought the solution was that I needed a bigger place, you know, those walk in closets that celebrities have? The real problem: I had too much stuff. I had clothes that I brought back in 1985 that I had worn probably about 5 times over 24 years. I could never imagine getting rid of anything in my closet.

Now, this is where I make a confession. I am a shopaholic. I buy things even when I don’t need them. It was/is a way to make me feel better about myself. And it did, for a little while, and then I would have to go shopping again. It has only been recently that the light bulb finally came on. It took a while, but I finally realized that buying/having material things really didn’t define who I really was and/or made me feel better about whom I am. I learned that it is my family, my experiences and adventures, my hopes and dreams that define who I am and give my life meaning. It may have taken 49 years for me to get to this point but I am realizing who I am. I am so looking forward to the next 50 years of my life and making all of my dreams come true.

I am still a shopaholic and will probably be so for the rest of my life, but now I have a plan for when I go shopping. If it's not on my list, it doesn't go in my closet. So now when I wake up in the morning, I always have something to wear.
How did I finally find something to wear in my closet? I took the advice of one of my favorite fashion gurus, Tim Gunn. In his book “A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style”, Tim advises that we should pull everything out of our closets, try everything on and then put them in one of 4 piles: The Soul- Stirring Pile, The Repair Pile, the Give-away Pile and the Throw-Out Pile. After going through my closet, I was able to Give-Away/Throw-Away more than 50% of my wardrobe. The remaining clothes in my closet are those that speak to my soul and which allow me to feel my best when I get dressed in the morning. If you wake up in the morning thinking “I have nothing to wear” and you have plenty of clothes in your closet, maybe you should think about making a change in your life.

IF YOU WANT WHAT YOU NEVER HAD, THEN DO WHAT YOU’VE NEVER DONE!

Welcome to the Diva's Closet

Hello. Welcome to “The Diva’s Closet”. Come on in and hang around for a while. See what’s in my closet.

I love being “A Tru Diva”, inside and out. I live life on my own terms and try to always be true to my inner voice. I still have work to do, but I am always in the game. I turn 50 in just 36 days-let the PARTY begin. I am looking forward to this 2nd half of my life. In fact, I’m starting now. Why wait?

I LOVE SHOPPING. I am a Fashion Diva. I have a style all of my own. My style can be described as Classic, Chic, Stylish and Unique. What I don’t want: trying to look like I am 21 or even 31. I like Classic clothes accented by bold and unique accessories. I am a Shoe Fanatic, Handbag Hound and Jewelry Junkie.

I won’t mortgage my future to look good. I love being a financially fit Diva. I live with a spending plan. I make a list of priorities (shopping and traveling) in my life and I set aside money every month for those priorities. I always pay myself first (savings) and then pay my other obligations. I shop consignment stores, outlets and one of my personal favorites, Ebay. I don’t exceed my spending plan unless I am willing to sacrifice in another non-essential category! I have learned some great shopping secrets that I’ll be sharing (shhh –don’t tell anyone), so you don’t have to spend a fortune to look like a fortune.

I am also a traveling Diva. The world beckons me and I heed the call of its siren. I want to experience all that life has to offer and a Diva has got to look fly when trotting off to the four corners of the world.

I hope you will join me on this adventure and if you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

So step on into the Diva’s Closet and let our journey begin.
